          Popular construction career routes

          Operative to Skilled Worker

          1. Complete CITB Health & Safety Awareness
          2. Pass the Operatives HS&E test and gain the Green Labourer Card
          3. Complete Level 2 NVQ in your trade
          4. Apply for the Blue Skilled Worker Card

          Typical timeframe: 6–12 months depending on on-site evidence gathering.

          Supervisor to Manager

          1. Hold the Gold Supervisor card (NVQ Level 3/4 + HS&E Supervisors test)
          2. Complete SMSTS or equivalent management safety training
          3. Undertake NVQ Level 6 Construction Site Management
          4. Upgrade to the Black Manager card

          Typical timeframe: 12–18 months depending on evidence portfolio.

          Engineer / Degree route

          1. Hold HNC/HND/BSc in a built environment discipline
          2. Pass the relevant HS&E test (Managers & Professionals)
          3. Apply for the White Academically Qualified Person card
          4. Join a professional body (e.g. CIOB, ICE) for PQP route

          Typical timeframe: immediate once academic evidence and HS&E test are in place.
