What is the HSA mock test?
The HSA (Health & Safety Awareness) course is CITB's entry-level, one-day Site Safety Plus qualification, and for most people it's the route to the CSCS Green Labourer Card. Our free mock test lets you rehearse before the real thing, covering the same ground you'll face on site. Work through 30 questions, see where you stand against the 83% pass mark, and build the confidence to walk into the official assessment knowing exactly what to expect.
Whether you're a new entrant, a labourer, an apprentice or changing careers, this practice exam helps the essentials stick. It reflects the way CITB frames health and safety on real construction sites, so nothing on assessment day feels unfamiliar. There's no sign-up and no catch: answer each question, get your results emailed instantly, and repeat the test until every topic feels second nature.
What the HSA mock test covers
Health & safety law basics
The Health and Safety at Work Act, plus the duties employers and employees each carry to keep everyone on site safe and protected.
Hazards and risk on site
Spotting hazards before they cause harm, understanding how risk is assessed, and knowing the sensible steps that reduce danger for you and others.
PPE and manual handling
Choosing and wearing the right personal protective equipment, and lifting, carrying and moving loads without injuring your back or others.
Health hazards
Managing dust, noise and vibration, plus COSHH substances and asbestos awareness so you protect your long-term health, not just avoid accidents.
Working at height basics
Why height is a leading cause of serious injury, and the basic precautions and equipment checks that keep work off the ground safe.
Site induction and reporting
Understanding site induction, safety signage, and how to report accidents, near misses and emergencies quickly and correctly.
Why practise with our HSA mock test?
Your route to the Green Card
HSA is how most new entrants qualify for the CSCS Green Labourer Card, so passing the course opens the door to paid work on site.
Know the format in advance
Practising 30 timed questions removes surprises, so the official CITB assessment feels like ground you've already covered rather than a leap into the unknown.
Find your weak spots early
Instant results show which topics need more attention, letting you focus your revision where it counts instead of guessing what to study.
Learn genuinely safer habits
The knowledge you build here protects you and your workmates in real life, not just on paper — which is the whole point of the qualification.
How to pass your HSA exam first time
- Read every question fully before choosing an answer — a single word like 'must' or 'never' often changes the correct response entirely.
- Keep an eye on the clock: 30 minutes for 30 questions gives you roughly a minute each, so don't get stuck on any one item.
- Aim to beat 83% comfortably in practice; scoring around 27 or 28 out of 30 gives you a safe margin on the day.
- Retake all five tests so you meet every topic — because the questions don't overlap, you'll cover far more of the syllabus than a single sitting shows.
- After each attempt, revisit the questions you got wrong and understand why, rather than simply memorising the right answer.
