What is the SMSTS mock test?
The CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) exam is the assessment that stands between site managers and their five-year Site Safety Plus certificate. Our free SMSTS mock test lets you sit the same style of questions under the same time pressure before the real thing — so nothing on exam day is a surprise.
Every question is written around the current SMSTS syllabus: health and safety law, CDM 2015, risk assessment, occupational health, work at height and the leadership behaviours a site manager is expected to demonstrate. When your results email lands you get the correct answer and a short explanation for every question, so a mock test is also a revision session.

How to pass your SMSTS exam first time
- Read every question to the end — SMSTS answers often hinge on one word such as “must”, “should” or “legal duty”.
- Eliminate the two obviously wrong options first, then choose between what's left — it dramatically improves your odds on scenario questions.
- Watch the clock: 35 minutes for 25 questions is roughly 80 seconds each. Flag anything you're unsure of and come back to it.
- Don't overthink. The first answer that clearly satisfies the law and good site practice is usually the right one.
- Retake a fresh test until you score 90%+ two attempts in a row — that consistency, not a single lucky pass, is what predicts exam success.

The CITB SMSTS assessment paper contains 25 questions. Each of our mock tests also has 25 questions so the length and pace match the real exam.
You need to score around 81% — roughly 21 out of 25 questions correct. Our mock tests use the same 81% threshold so you know whether you're on track.
The SMSTS paper is time-limited. Our mock test gives you 35 minutes for the 25 questions so you can practise working at exam pace.
No — nobody may publish the live CITB questions. Ours are written to match the official syllabus, question style and difficulty so they prepare you accurately without breaching CITB's exam security.
No. The mock test is practice only. You still have to attend the full CITB SMSTS course and pass the official assessment to earn your Site Safety Plus certificate.
